Matt Boyd snags the Tigers' last rotation spot

Detroit Tigers pitcher Matt Boyd will open the season as the Tigers' fifth starter, according to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press.

What It Means:

Boyd earned the spot over veteran Anibal Sanchez after posting a 2.49 ERA with 21 punchouts and zero walks in 21 2/3 spring innings. Sanchez moves to the bullpen and will pitch in long relief. The 26-year-old Boyd is worth a late-round flier in deep fantasy leagues due to his success this spring.

Boyd posted a 4.53 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 82 strikeouts in 97 1/3 innings pitched last season for the Tigers.
