Royals tag Raul Mondesi as starting second baseman
Kansas City Royals infielder Raul Mondesi will start at second base this upcoming season, manager Ned Yost announced on Monday morning in camp.
Mondesi is hitting .378/.391/.622 across 46 plate appearances (19 games) during spring action. He's added three home runs, one more than his total for the entire 2016 season (149 plate appearances in 47 games). The 21-year-old infielder makes for a decent AL-only option in his new starting gig.
Mondesi is projected to hit .222 across 262 plate appearances in 2017, according to numberFire's models, with 6 home runs, 22 RBI's and 14 stolen bags.
