Reds' Anthony DeSclafani out next four weeks with UCL sprain
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani will be shut down for the next four weeks after being diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
The diagnosis means Tommy John surgery may be necessary. DeSclafani is hopeful rest and rehab will do the trick, but the 26-year-old right-hander isn't someone you want to draft in standard leagues. Look for the Reds to hand over Opening Day duties to Brandon Finnegan with DeSclafani now unavailable.
DeSclafani twirled a 3.28 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 20.7 percent strikeout rate -- all career-bests -- across 123 1/3 innings last season. He went 9-5 in 20 starts.
