Rusney Castillo underwhelming Red Sox, not guaranteed to make 40-man
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said it was "disappointing" to see outfielder Rusney Castillo jog down the line on a double play grounder during Thursday's exhibition game against Northeastern.
Farrell said after the game that Castillo doesn't currently have a spot on the 40-man roster, and based off his performance so far, it doesn't sound like that's going to change. The 29-year-old was signed to a seven-year, $72.5 million deal out of Cuba in 2014, but he's played in only 99 games thus far -- including just nine last season.
Castillo is slashing .262/.301/.379 with a .298 wOBA across 337 total plate appearances in the majors. He's notched 7 home runs, 35 RBI's and 7 steals with 1.3 wins above replacement.
