Matt Wieters deal with Nationals is for two years, $21 million
Washington Nationals catcher Matt Wieters' deal with his new club is worth $21 million over two years, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
Wieters will be able to opt-out after the first year of the deal, which pays him $10 million for 2017. The 30-year-old backstop should be able to cash in with a more lavish deal next winter if he can turn in a strong campaign this upcoming season.
Wieters slashed .243/.302/.409 across 464 plate appearances last season, with 17 home runs and an 18.3 percent strikeout rate that was his lowest since 2014.
