Tampa Bay adds Wilson Ramos (knee) on two-year agreement
The Tampa Bay Rays signed free agent catcher Wilson Ramos to a two-year, $12.5 million contract.
Ramos is recovering from ACL and meniscus tears that required major knee surgery, so he likely won't be available for the Rays until sometime next June. He's in line to serve as the designated hitter next season and then handle regular catching duties in 2018. Prior to the injury last September, the 29-year-old backstop was in line for a long-term deal in the five-to-six year range.
Ramos slashed .307/.354/.496 with a career-best .361 wOBA through 523 plate appearances for the Washington Nationals in 2016. He tallied 22 home runs and 80 RBI's on the year, both of which also represented career-highs.
