Danny Espinosa heading to Angels after deal with Nationals

The Los Angeles Angels acquired infielder Danny Espinosa from the Washington Nationals for a pair of relievers in Austin Adams and Kyle McGowin.

What It Means:

Espinosa is expected to replace Cliff Pennington as the starting second baseman, giving the Angels an elite double-play duo with Andrelton Simmons at shortstop. The 29-year-old would have been a utility player in Washington, but an everyday role in Anaheim will salvage his fantasy value.

Espinosa smacked a career-high 24 home runs in 2016, but it was accompanied by a .209 batting average across 601 plate appearances. He also recorded a .294 wOBA and .169 ISO.
