Carlos Gomez returning to Rangers on one-year deal
The Texas Rangers have re-signed outfielder Carlos Gomez, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports says it's a one-year deal worth $11.5 million. Gomez was cut by the Houston Astros in early August, likely hurting his value on the open market. He did finish strong for Texas down the stretch, though, hitting .284/.362/.543 with eight sluggers and five steals across 130 plate appearances. Expect him to open 2017 as the Rangers' starting center fielder.
Prior to being released, Gomez struggled to a .210/.272/.322 slash in 323 plate appearances for Houston. He managed only five home runs and 29 RBI's while posting a .594 OPS, a far cry from his .727 career-average.
