Mark Melancon comes to terms on four-year deal with Giants
Free agent reliever Mark Melancon has agreed to a contract with the San Francisco Giants, per Buster Olney of ESPN.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the deal is reportedly worth $62 million over four years. Melancon doesn't carry the résumé of fellow closers Aroldis Chapman or Kenley Jansen, but the 31-year-old right-hander should provide a significant upgrade for a Giants bullpen that struggled mightily down the stretch. He still needs to pass a physical before an official announcement will be made.
Melancon twirled a 1.64 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 24.1 percent strikeout rate across 71 1/3 innings for the Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates last season. However, a 2.83 SIERA was his worst clip since the 2012 season.
