Athletics sign Matt Joyce to two-year, $11 million deal
The Oakland Athletics have signed Matt Joyce to a two-year, $11 million contract, pending a physical according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
What It Means:
Joyce signed a minor league deal with the Pirates last winter so this is a substantial pay raise after he posted a strong .866 OPS in 293 plate appearances in 2016. He should see time in right field and should play a lot against righty pitching for the A's.
Joyce posted a strong .375 wOBA last season with 13 homers, 42 RBI's and a nearly a career-best .221 ISO.
