Blue Jays planning on bringing back Joey Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion

Toronto Blue Jays impending free agents outfielder Jose Bautista and first baseman Edwin Encarnacion are at the top of the club's priority list, as manager Ross Atkins said he plans to do "everything possible" to discuss contract extensions with the pair before they officially become free agents.

What It Means:

With a weak free agent class on the horizon, the pair of sluggers would be wise to test their value on the open market as two of the best options available. The free agent period begins five days after the World Series completes. Toronto would gain top draft picks as compensation if Bautista and Encarnacion take their talents elsewhere.

Bautista's 19.9 strikeout percentage during the regular season was his highest clip since 2009, but he was still good for a .234/.366/.452 slash and .355 wOBA in 517 plate appearances. Encarnacion, after a slow start to the season, once again posted huge numbers with a .263/.357/.529 slash and .373 wOBA across 702 plate appearances. He tied a career-high with 42 dingers while adding a career-best 127 RBI's in 2016.
