Pirates could try to trade Andrew McCutchen this offseason
"There is a growing sense among industry insiders," that the Pittsburgh Pirates will trade outfielder Andrew McCutchen before he reaches free agency, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
McCutchen is in the midst of a pretty bad season and he turns 30 soon. He is owed $14 million next season, but 2018 is a club option, making his departure this winter more likely. The Pirates have a ton of good outfield talent in the pipeline, including 2013 1st round pick Austin Meadows, who may be ready for a call up in 2017.
McCutchen is slashing a career-low .255/.336/.430 with a .329 wOBA across 670 plate appearances this season. He does have 24 homers, but his strikeout rate is a career-worst, 21.2 percent and his isolated power of .175 is his lowest since 2010.
