Yadier Molina lifts Cardinals past Cincinnati with controversial walk-off double

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was credited with a walk-off double in Thursday night's 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

What It Means:

The only problem is that it was clearly a ground-rule double. Molina one-hopped a Blake Wood pitch over the left field wall, but Matt Carpenter continued to advance around the bases, sliding into home base for the game-winning run with no objection from the umpires. The Reds failed to protest in a timely manner on Thursday and many are wondering if an alternate ruling could be made after the fact. For now, Molina's efforts place the Cardinals two games back of the New York Mets for the first bid in the National League Wild Card race. Molina went 2-for-5 on the night, adding his eighth longball of the year to give him two RBI's in the affair.

On the season, Molina is hitting .303/.356/.421 with a .338 wOBA and .119 ISO in a career-high 568 plate appearances.
