Brandon Belt, Eduardo Nunez, Denard Span sitting for Giants

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (illness), infielder Eduardo Nunez (back soreness) and outfielder Denard Span are all out of the starting lineup on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres.

What It Means:

Belt is "pretty sick," according to manager Bruce Bochy, while Nunez was scratched from the opener due to soreness in his back and will sit again. Span is in the midst of a slump and went 0-for-4 in Monday's series opener. Buster Posey is starting at first and Trevor Brown is behind the plate. Ehire Adrianza will be on the hot corner for San Francisco and bat eighth against Padres left-hander Clayton Richard. Gorkys Hernandez will man center field and hit sixth.

Belt owns a .271/.388/.464 slash and .367 wOBA in 582 plate appearances this season. Nunez is slashing .284/.323/.433 (550 plate appearances) and Span has recorded a .260/.322/.374 slash (581 plate appearances).
