Matt Cain working out of bullpen for Giants Friday, Albert Suarez starting
San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain will work out of the bullpen when he returns from the disabled list on Friday, manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday.
According to Bochy, Cain left a little to be desired with his control in his last minor league rehab start. Albert Suarez will take the mound for the Giants Friday in a road tilt with the Chicago Cubs. Neither option holds much fantasy appeal.
Through 83 2/3 innings of work for San Francisco this season, Cain has recorded career-highs with a 5.81 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. His 17.5 strikeout percentage is below his career average (19.9 percent) and the big league average for 2016 (21.0 percent).
