Alex Cobb (elbow) to start for Rays on Friday

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Cobb (elbow) will make his return to the rotation on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

What It Means:

Cobb's long awaited return is finally over, as this start will be his first in the big leagues since September 28, 2014. The 28 year-old righty posted a 6.65 ERA in 21 2/3 innings (eight starts) during his rehab assignment in the minors, and for fantasy purposes, he should be viewed as a wait-and-see option. It's expected that the Rays will use a six-man rotation for the month of September.

In 143 1/3 innings in 2013, Cobb posted a superb 3.02 xFIP. He followed that up with a 3.33 xFIP in 166 1/3 innings in 2014. His 23.2 and 21.9 strikeout percentages in 2013 and 2014 were both above league average (19.9 and 20.4 percent, respectively).
