Felix Hernandez leads Mariners to victory Friday

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez gave up only one run in 7 1/3 innings in a 3-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

What It Means:

Hernandez had to battle against a great game from Chris Sale as well, but King Felix was even better in his 7 1/3 frames. The only run he allowed was a Todd Frazier solo homer in the seventh, but Edwin Diaz came in for the five out save to seal the deal after that. Hernandez gave up eight hits and walked two during his time on the hill and his next start will be a tough battle against the Rangers in Texas on Wednesday.

Hernandez now has a 3.14 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP across 117 2/3 innings this season. His strikeout rate of only 20.5 is his lowest mark since the 2008 season, threatening a career-low. His xFIP of 4.21 is easily the worst of the 30-year-old's career.
