David Ortiz

David Ortiz sitting out Thursday for Boston

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is getting the day off Thursday for a road matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays.

What It Means:

The Red Sox will roll with Travis Shaw at first and Aaron Hill on the hot corner, while Hanley Ramirez serves as the designated hitter.

Ortiz has been spectacular in what will be his final year in the majors, evidenced by a 4.12 nERD that ranks second in baseball. He owns a .322/.412/.637 slash in 490 plate appearances this season, while his .315 ISO and .430 wOBA are both tops in the big leagues. Our models currently project him to hit eight more dingers with 25 RBI's in another 145 appearances at the plate over the remainder of the year.
