Carlos Gomez will join Rangers on Thursday

Outfielder Carlos Gomez is set to join the Texas Rangers on Thursday.

What It Means:

This isn't surprising news, since manager Jeff Banister said Tuesday that this move was a strong possibility. The Rangers signed Gomez to a minor league contract earlier in August after he was released by the Houston Astros. He's been playing for Triple-A Round Rock in preparation for a return to the big leagues. After struggling mightily with the Astros, slashing .210/.272/.322 in 323 plate appearances, it's doubtful that Gomez will have significant fantasy value over the rest of the season with the Rangers.

Gomez posted a .260 wOBA and 31.0 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.0 percent) with Houston -- both of which are career worsts -- while his .112 ISO was well below his career .155 ISO.
