Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw (back) to throw 60-pitch bullpen session

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw (back) is expected to throw a 60-pitch bullpen session Thursday or Friday.

What It Means:

Kershaw successfully completed a 50-pitch bullpen session without any setbacks Tuesday in Los Angeles, so he'll take the next few days off before the 60-throw session. The 28-year-old southpaw said that he expects to rejoin the Dodgers' rotation after just one minor league rehab start, but it's unknown when that start would take place. Kershaw's last start was on June 26 as he recovers from a herniated disc in his lower back.

While Kershaw dazzled with a 1.79 ERA and 32.88 percent strikeout rate through 16 starts this season, his (still outstanding) 2.26 SIERA was on pace to be his highest since 2013.
