Steven Wright (shoulder) expected back Friday for Boston

Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright (shoulder) threw a 60-pitch bullpen session Tuesday at Tropicana Field.

What It Means:

"Obviously see how [Wednesday] goes, but today, to get through that, it’s big," Wright stated after the workout. "It’s still a little achy, but when I get out on the mound it doesn’t really bother me. I think it’s just something from not throwing consistently like I have been." The 31-year-old right-hander has received the green light to return to the Red Sox rotation this Friday in a matchup with the Kansas City Royals.

Wright owns a 3.01 ERA and a 4.39 xFIP in 146 2/3 innings this season, to go with a 1.19 WHIP and 20.2 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.0 percent).
