Justin Verlander strikes out nine in Tigers' victory
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander piled up nine strikeouts over six innings of two-run ball as he defeated the New York Mets on Friday night.
Verlander allowed only four hits and just one walk during his time on the hill. The Tigers' veteran ace has been pitching like a beast over the last two months and he will get a chance to continue it in his next start against the Mariners on Wednesday.
Verlander owns a 2.82 nERD, which ranks fourth among all players. He has a 26.58 strikeout rate and a 3.52 ERA over 153 1/3 innings and our models project him to post a 3.59 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP over 67 2/3 innings left this season.
