Jordan Zimmermann to get MRI after Tigers' loss Thursday

Detroit Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann is going for an MRI on his right lat after giving up six runs in 1 2/3 innings Thursday against the Chicago White Sox.

What It Means:

The lat issue is separate from a neck injury that forced Zimmermann to the disabled list for the past month before returning Thursday. He was awful from the beginning against the White Sox, plunking the first hitter he faced and allowing two homers, without any strikeouts, before being pulled. It certainly looks like another trip to the disabled list will happen, meaning Anibal Sanchez -- and his poor 6.26 ERA -- is likely to remain in the Tigers rotation. Daniel Norris could also see another turn there.

Zimmermann now owns a 4.44 ERA and a 4.66 xFIP in 97 1/3 innings this season. His strikeout percentage fell to 14.63, well below the league average of 21.01 percent. We currently project Zimmermann to record a 4.25 ERA and a 15.19 strikeout percentage over the rest of the year.
