Oakland sticking with Ryan Madson at closer
Oakland Athletic pitcher Ryan Madson will remain in his role as the team's closer, manager Bob Melvin said on Tuesday.
Madson blew his sixth save of the season in Monday's loss to the Rangers and has watched his ERA rise every month -- from 1.42 at the end of April, to 2.42 at the end of May, to 3.00 at the end of June, to the 3.77 mark where it sits now. Ryan Dull probably deserves a shot, but it's not going to happen yet.
Madson continues to see his ERA rise every month - he owned a 1.42 mark at the end of April, 2.42 once May closed, 3.00 following June and now a 3.77 number as July wraps up. He has a 19.44 strikeout percentage and 7.78 percent walk rate across 43 innings of work this season.
