James Paxton strikes out nine in Mariners' win over Blue Jays
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher James Paxton limited the Toronto Blue Jays to one run in a 2-1 win on Friday.
Paxton went seven strong innings of one-run ball on Friday. He also allowed only three hits and one walk during his time on the mound. He had been struggling lately, but maybe this is a sign of a turnaround for the 27 year-old lefty. He will get a chance to build off of his solid start against the Cubs his next time out.
Paxton lowered his ERA to 4.18 over 60 1/3 innings pitched this year. He has a 20.91 strikeout rate and a nERD of 1.40, which ranks him 139th in the majors. Our models project him to post a 4.35 ERA and a 16.70 strikeout rate across 41 1/3 innings remaining this season.
