Phillies' Mark Appel done for season after bone spur surgery
Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Mark Appel had surgery Wednesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.
The No. 1 overall pick in 2013, Appel has had a rough go of it. This is the latest setback. He is done for the season, but he is expected to be back to 100 percent by spring training next year.
Appel had struggled in 38 1/3 innings in Triple-A this year, putting up a 4.05 ERA while walking 4.70 hitters per nine innings. His dynasty stock continues to fall.
