Lucas Duda

Lucas Duda likely on Mets' sidelines throughout July

New York Mets first baseman Lucas Duda (back) remains at least two weeks away from returning to baseball activities, admitted manager Terry Collins on Tuesday.

What It Means:

Duda has been on the shelf since May 21 with a stress fracture in his back, and this raises a lot of doubt about his ability to return to action sometime next month. This means more James Loney at first base until Duda can get past this injury.

Duda is slashing just .231/.297/.431 with a .312 wOBA in 145 plate appearances this season, but had been driving the ball well, evidenced by seven home runs and a .200 Isolated Power. Loney has a .347 wOBA with two homers, eight RBI's and 10 runs scored in 103 plate appearances this season. Although he has had a nice start with the Mets, our models currently project some regression over the rest of the season, with a .296 wOBA, two homers and 16 RBI's in another 177 appearances at the plate.
