Nationals' Stephen Strasburg's MRI reveals upper back strain

Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg had an MRI on his back and it didn't reveal anything unexpected, according to manager Dusty Baker.

What It Means:

The good news is that his injury isn't more serious than originally thought, but he's still battling an upper back strain, which is what the initial diagnosis was. This leaves the timetable for Strasburg's return as a bit of a question mark. The Nationals called up baseball's top prospect, 21 year-old Lucas Giolito, to replace Strasburg in the rotation.

As is always the case with Strasburg, when he's healthy, he's the best. He owns a 2.91 SIERA, 31.9 percent strikeout rate and 6.5 percent walk rate through 93 innings this season. Strasburg did deal with neck and back ailments last year, as well.
