Padres' Jon Jay headed to disabled list with broken arm
San Diego Padres outfielder Jon Jay has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 20, with a broken right forearm.
Jay was hit in the arm by a pitch over a week ago and this is a big blow to the Padres. Jay was having a terrific bounce back season in San Diego after a disappointing year of platooning in St. Louis. He does not yet have have a timetable for his return, but it's safe to assume he won't be ready to return until late in the regular season.
Jay has been a pleasant surprise this season, slashing .296/.345/.407 with two home runs and a .333 wOBA in 291 plate appearances. He has already eclipsed his at bats total from last season, and his BABIP is up 133 points from 2015. Our models don't expect the production to last over the remaining course of the year however, currently projecting him to hit .245/.298/.331 with two home runs and a .271 wOBA in 296 appearances at the plate.
