Trevor Rosenthal out as Cardinals closer

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has removed pitcher Trevor Rosenthal from the closer role.

What It Means:

Rosenthal has been atrocious in the month of June. He is 0-2 with two blown saves and a 14.14 ERA in his last 11 appearances. Rosenthal will be in the setup role for now, and the Redbirds will go with a closer by committee with Seung Hwan Oh, Jonathan Broxton and Kevin Siegrist taking turns in the ninth inning.

Rosenthal has a 5.63 ERA and 2.03 WHIP over 24 innings pitched this season. He has 14 saves with three blown saves on the year.
