Yunel Escobar

Giants have shown interest in Angels' Yunel Escobar

The Los Angeles Angels "are listening" regarding infielder Yunel Escobar and the San Francisco Giants are "among the teams that have expressed interest," according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

What It Means:

This report might mean that San Francisco isn't expecting Matt Duffy (Achilles) to return anytime soon. It's not surprising that the Angels are listening to offers for Escobar, considering they're already 16 games behind the Texas Rangers for the division lead. Escobar's salary this season is $7 million and the Angels have a 2017 option on him for the same amount.

Escobar offers no power, but is slashing a solid .310/.359/.409 with three home runs and a .335 wOBA in 301 plate appearances this season. Our models currently project him to hit .292/.349/.389 with four home runs and a .321 wOBA over the remaining course of the season.
