Jim Johnson (groin) nearing rehab games for Braves

Atlanta Braves reliever Jim Johnson (groin) is nearing a rehab assignment.

What It Means:

Johnson has been on the disabled list since May 9 because of a right groin strain. He had a 7.90 ERA over his first 15 appearances this season for the Braves, so they might have him spend a while in the minor leagues. It's probably safe to expect an early-June return for the veteran righty.

Johnson's xFIP was significantly lower (3.35) than his ERA, and his 23.3 strikeout percentage would be a new career high. Our models currently project him to record a 4.00 ERA and 17.1 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
