Justin Upton (quad) not expected to return on Wednesday for Tigers

Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton (quad) probably won't play Wednesday either, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

What It Means:

Upton was a late scratch Monday and is being held out again Tuesday due to tightness in his right quad. Ausmus said the team is just trying to be cautious. Upton, signed to a six-year, $132.75 million free agent contract this winter, is batting just .223/.270/.319 with 66 strikeouts over his first 178 plate appearances for Detroit.

Upton has just 2 home runs, 1 stolen base, and a .258 wOBA in 178 plate appearances so far this season. Our models currently project him to hit .237/.319/.415 with 15 home runs, 9 steals, and a .316 wOBA over the remaining course of the season.
