Cardinals will keep Aledmys Diaz in lineup when Jhonny Peralta returns

The St. Louis Cardinals will "find creative ways" to keep shortstop Aledmys Diaz in the lineup when Jhonny Peralta returns from his thumb injury, Fox Sports' Jon Morosi expects.

What It Means:

Peralta should return early next month. Peralta was no slouch last year, batting .275 with 17 home runs and 71 RBI's. Morosi said the Cardinals are open to using Peralta at both third and first base, which would allow Diaz to stay put at shortstop. Diaz is able to play any infield position, so Cards' manager Mike Matheny should be able to have both players in the lineup most days.

Diaz has gotten off to an impossibly hot start, hitting .381 with a .679 slugging percentage through 26 games. That said, our models project Diaz for a .252/.312/.376 slash line, .297 wOBA and seven home runs the rest of the season.
