Yadier Molina earns start at first base for Cardinals
St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is starting at first base for Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
This will be just the third career start Molina has ever made at first base. He is batting fifth for the Cardinals, with Brandon Moss and Matt Adams both sitting out against Phillies' left-hander Adam Morgan. Eric Fryer will start at catcher in Molina's place and is hitting eighth.
Molina is off to a great start, slashing .333/.410/.430 with a .369 wOBA -- third best among catchers -- in 105 plate appearances this season. Our models currently project Molina to slash .274/.328/.374 with six home runs and a .304 wOBA over the remaining course of the season.
