Giants want Juan Uribe for utility role
The San Francisco Giants have talked to free agent infielder Juan Uribe about a utility role, "but the salary ask has been too expensive for them," according to ESPN's Buster Olney.
Uribe, who will be 37 years-old in March, had productive seasons for the Giants in 2009 and 2010, so the two sides are familiar with each other. However, the Cleveland Indians are also pursuing Uribe, and he would likely see much more playing time with them.
Uribe slashed .253/.320/.417 in 397 plate appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and New York Mets last season. He posted a .319 wOBA and hit 14 home runs, his most since 2010. Despite his age, Uribe posted a 2.3 UZR/150 at third base in 2015. He has only recorded a negative UZR/150 total at the hot corner once (2008) in his career.
