Max Scherzer (back) to return Thursday for Nationals
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (back) will return to the rotation on Thursday for a start against the Colorado Rockies.
Scherzer threw a bullpen session on Monday and then played catch on Tuesday without any issue. He hasn't pitched since July 6 due to a mid-back strain. The right-hander turns 35 on Friday.
Scherzer is 9-5 in 19 starts this season. He owns a 2.30 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 181 strikeouts and 23 walks over 129 1/3 innings.
