Rockies' Trevor Story (thumb) to undergo MRI

Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story will undergo an MRI on his injured right thumb on Thursday.

What It Means:

Story was lifted in the top of the sixth inning of Wednesday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after jamming his right thumb on a headfirst slide into second base. X-rays came back negative, though there's still some concern of ligament damage. In late July 2016, Story had X-rays on his left thumb that were also negative, but he later learned there were torn ligaments and missed the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old shortstop is slashing .294/.360/.547 through 328 plate appearances (72 games) this season. He currently leads the majors with 65 runs scored and is one of only two players with at least 15 dingers and 10 steals.
