Andrelton Simmons on Angels' shelf with Grade 3 ankle sprain
The Los Angeles Angels placed shortstop Andrelton Simmons on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 3 left ankle sprain.
Simmons suffered the injury on Monday. Grade 3 is the most severe, likely meaning a multi-month absence. The Angels recalled Luis Rengifo from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding roster move. He's starting at second base on Tuesday versus the Minnesota Twins. Tommy La Stella is on the hot corner while David Fletcher is covering shortstop.
Simmons has put together a .298/.323/.415 slash line with 3 homers, 13 doubles, 21 RBI, 22 runs scored, and 5 steals across 195 plate appearances this season.
