Braves bring back veteran reliever Jim Johnson

Relief pitcher Jim Johnson has agreed to a one-year contract with the Atlanta Braves.

What It Means:

According to MLB.com's Mark Bowman, the deal is for $2.5 million. Johnson made 23 appearances with the Dodgers after coming over from the Atlanta Braves prior to the trade deadline. He will likely be used as a setup man in 2016, despite manning the closer role for the Braves last season prior to the trade.

Johnson will look to rebound from consecutive down seasons in 2016. Johnson allowed 21 earned runs in 18 2/3 innings, though eight of those runs came in one outing. His 3.87 xFIP paints a much more accurate and positive picture. Still, that xFIP only ranked 11th on the team out of the 13 pitchers who threw at least 10 relief innings.
