Athletics reunited with Jed Lowrie in trade
The Oakland Athletics acquired infielder Jed Lowrie from the Houston Astros for pitcher Brendan McCurry.
The Astros signed Lowrie to a three-year deal last winter, but after just one season, he's on his way back to Oakland. Lowrie injured his thumb in April and was unable to replicate the success he had at the beginning of the year in the second half of the season. It's not yet clear exactly how Oakland will use him, but he's likely to crack their starting lineup in 2016.
Lowrie finished the month of April batting .300/.432/.567 with eight extra base hits, and 12 walks to 15 strikeouts in 60 at-bats. After returning at the end of July, he hit just .194/.265/.341 through the end of the season.
