Dodgers have expressed interest in Reds' Aroldis Chapman

The Los Angeles Dodgers have expressed interest in Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

What It Means:

Heyman goes onto say that the Dodgers are "very focused on a bullpen that needs upgrading." It's likely these needs will be addressed before focusing on Zack Greinke and the starting pitching market. Targeting Chapman makes sense for any team looking to be competitive in 2016, as he is the best strikeout reliever in baseball.

Chapman posted a 2.49 xFIP this season -- his highest since 2011 -- but still led all relievers with 15.74 strikeouts per nine innings. He also rarely gives up home runs as his home runs allowed per nine innings was just 0.41 this season. The Reds will likely want prospects in return as they go into rebuild mode, and the Dodgers have the pieces to make this trade happen.
