3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Avoid on 7/26/16

Jason Kipnis has a tough matchup against Gio Gonzalez. Who else should you avoid on Tuesday night?

As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.

Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Tuesday.

Jason Kipnis, 2B, Cleveland Indians

FanDuel Price: $3,600

Jason Kipnis has hit safely in 8 straight games and has been very good since the All-Star break. He has 4 multi-hit games with 2 homers and 5 runs scored during that stretch, but while he has been hot, his price and matchup against Gio Gonzalez present some issues tonight.

Kipnis owns a 27.3% strikeout rate against lefties this season to go along with a .289 wOBA. His ISO drops down to .102 this year against lefties with a fly-ball rate of just 20% and a hard hit rate of 26.6%.

Gonzalez has been very good against southpaw hitters this season, as well. They own a .264 wOBA against him, and lefties have a fly-ball rate less than 20%. Considering Kipnis has only hit 2 of his homers against lefties, and Gonzalez has only given up 1 homer to a left-handed hitter this season, lay of the Tribe’s second baseman.

Jayson Werth, OF, Washington Nationals

FanDuel Price: $3,400

Jayson Werth has been heating up, hitting homers in 2 of the last 4 games he has started. However, the Nationals have a tough interleague battle with Indians' righty Danny Salazar.

Salazar has been outstanding against hitters of both handedness. Righties own a .287 wOBA against Salazar this season, and they have a 25.7% strikeout rate.

Werth owns just a .284 wOBA versus right-handed pitchers this season. He has a 24.3% strikeout rate against righties, and his hard-hit rate drops to 32.7%.

Curtis Granderson, OF, New York Mets

FanDuel Price: $2,900

Curtis Granderson's price is almost always appealing, but his matchup against southpaw Jaime Garcia in the second game of a doubleheader is certainly not attractive.

Granderson has just a .307 wOBA against left-handers this season. His strikeout rate goes up to 24.5% and his fly-ball rate drops to 31.4% when he faces lefties. Only 3 of Granderson's 16 homers have come off lefty pitchers, and Garcia has allowed only 1 homer to lefties this season.

Left-handed bats have a wOBA of just .264 this season against Garcia with a 21% strikeout rate. Lefties also have a hard-hit rate of just 21.1% against him, so with Granderson’s struggles and the doubleheader today, it's wise to pass on the Mets' outfielder.
