3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Avoid on 6/24/16

Chris Carter is in a terrible matchup with Max Scherzer on the hill for the Nationals. Who else should you avoid on Friday night?

As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.

Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Friday.

Chris Carter, 1B, Milwaukee Brewers

FanDuel Price: $2,500

Chris Carter's hot start to the season has slowly faded, and he is now hitting closer to his career average of .218 on the year. He is still smacking home runs, including five this month, but his matchup on Friday is cause for concern. He is facing off against one of the best right-handers in the game in Max Scherzer, and the Nationals’ ace has been almost unhittable for righties this season.

Scherzer owns a .204 wOBA against right-handers over 192 batters faced, and even more impressive is his 38.5 strikeout rate and 23.5 percent hard hit rate against righties in 2016.

Carter, on the other hand, has a strikeout rate of 36.2 percent against right-handers this season, and his wOBA is .334. With Scherzer striking out nearly 40 percent of the righties he has faced this year, Carter is likely going to go down swinging more than once on Friday.

Chris Iannetta, C, Seattle Mariners

FanDuel Price: $2,600

Chris Iannetta hit his seventh home run of the season on Thursday in what was a big daily fantasy day for the Mariners’ catcher, and now inevitably, here on Friday, his ownership might be a little higher because of his 21.7-FanDuel-point day on Thursday. However, the Mariners are hosting the Cardinals in an inter-league battle, and the Cardinals are starting Carlos Martinez tonight.

Martinez has dominated right-handed hitters this season, and while the Mariners are putting out a lineup of mostly lefties, Iannetta has not hit righties well this season. He has a wOBA of .275 against them this season. His strikeout rate is 23.7 against them, and when he hits against righties at home, his wOBA drops to .246 over 53 at-bats this season.

Martinez has been devastating against right-handers, as they have a .200 wOBA against him over 144 total batters faced. Martinez is also striking out 23.6 percent of the righties he has faced this season, and they own a hard hit rate of just 26 percent against him.

Shin-soo Choo, OF, Texas Rangers

FanDuel Price: $3,100

Shin-Soo Choo is going up against David Price and the Red Sox tonight, and Choo has never been especially good against lefties.

He does have two homers against left-handed pitching this season, but throughout his career, there is a steep decline in his splits against lefties. For his career, he has a .313 wOBA and a 24.3 strikeout rate, and last season in 211 at-bats against lefty pitching, Choo posted almost the exact same wOBA.

Price has been up-and-down at times this season, but in his last three starts, he has gone eight innings in all of them and has 25 strikeouts in that span as well. This season, lefties have a .285 wOBA against him across 91 total batters faced. If Price continues his recent dominance from his last three starts, it might be best to avoid lefties in the Rangers’ lineup Friday night.
