3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Avoid on 4/25/16

Todd Frazier is almost always an intriguing option at third base, but you may want to fade him tonight.

As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.

Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Monday.

David Peralta, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks

FanDuel Price: $3,500

David Peralta has been smashing the ball over his last three games, with two home runs, two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored over the weekend against Pittsburgh. All that added up to 54 FanDuel points in his last three games, and it could lead some DFS players to roster him without any second thoughts to his matchup this evening.

Jaime Garcia, his pitching opponent, looks like he's back to dominating left-handed hitting, and Peralta has struggled against lefties during his career. This season, Peralta has a wOBA of .314 against lefties, and an average of just .200. His strikeout rate in 20 at-bats against lefties so far this season is 34.8 percent, and his career average strike out rate against left-handed pitching is 26.8 percent.

While Garcia isn’t a huge strikeout pitcher, his strikeout rate of 22.2 percent for his career against lefties is still pretty good. His career hard hit rate against lefties is 24.8 percent, and while the sample size is small, he is dominating lefties so far in 2016. This season lefties have a wOBA of just .088 against Garcia, and he has struck out 40 percent of the lefties he has faced this season.

Todd Frazier, 3B, Chicago White Sox

FanDuel Price: $3,900

Todd Frazier is another guy who has been on a huge hot streak recently. He has seven hits in his last 21 at-bats, and three of those hits have been home runs. He is averaging 15 FanDuel points per game over his last six games, and his price has gone up all the way to $3,900 for Monday’s game.

However, Frazier and the White Sox have to face off against Marcus Stroman tonight. While Stroman had tough first couple outings, he has been pretty good in his last two starts. He pitched into the seventh inning in both of his last two outings, and even though he gave up a couple of homers in his last outing, right-handed hitters have had some issues with him this season. Righties have a wOBA of just .255 against him this season, and during his career righties have a fly ball rate of just 22.3 percent and a hard-hit rate of 21 percent.

While Frazier wasn’t bad against righties last season, his power numbers dropped significantly -- last season, his ISO was .208 against righties compared to .346 against lefties. Frazier’s fly-ball rate also dropped to 46.9 percent against righties in 2015, compared to 50.4 percent against lefties. His luck may run out tonight against Stroman.

Melvin Upton Jr., OF, San Diego Padres

FanDuel Price: $2700

Melvin Upton has been a good under the radar fantasy option over the last eight games for the Padres. After blasting a two run home run last week, Upton has scored 105 FanDuel points over his last eight games, an average of over 13 per game.

However, now Upton and the Padres have to go up against Madison Bumgarner tonight, and while Bumgarner is a lefty, Upton has had some real issues with left-handed pitchers lately. On the year, Upton has a wOBA of just .296, and his strikeout rate is 26.1 percent this season against lefties in 18 at-bats.

The issues for Upton against lefties didn’t start this season. Over his last two seasons, he's hitting just .214 off lefties. While Bumgarner has been much more dominant this season and in his career against lefties, last season his hard-hit rate against righties was just 28 percent compared to 27.2 percent against lefties. With Upton’s recent struggles against left-handed pitching, don’t expect his value to continue tonight.
