3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 8/15/19

While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your short list of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.

Mike Fiers, P, Oakland Athletics

FanDuel Price: $8,300

Righty Mike Fiers has been the ace of the Oakland Athletics' pitching staff this season, accumulating 147 innings pitched with just a 3.30 ERA. However, he has a FIP of 4.51 and only strikes out 16.6% of batters he faces. His opponent tonight, the Houston Astros, owns the highest wRC+ against righties in the entire league along with the lowest strikeout rate. Fiers has roughly even splits, so do not expect him to be able to contain the dynamic Houston lineup.

Reynaldo Lopez ($8,000) comes a little bit cheaper but with more upside, especially from strikeouts.

Rhys Hoskins, 1B, Philadelphia Phillies

FanDuel Price: $3,700

Don't be tricked by his solid game yesterday against lefty Cole Hamels as Rhys Hoskins has struggled this season against righties. Hoskins has a .345 wOBA this season in righty-righty clashes, compared to a .421 mark against lefties. His strikeout rate is also five percentage points higher against righties. His opponent tonight, Yu Darvish, has limited righties to a mere .269 wOBA while striking them out in 34.1% of plate appearances.

Consider starting Christian Walker ($3,500) against the San Francisco Giants instead of Rhys versus Darvish.

Aaron Judge, OF, New York Yankees

FanDuel Price: $3,900

Since returning from an oblique injury in June, Aaron Judge has been unable to find his power stroke, hitting just seven home runs in that span. Against righties, the numbers are even more bleak as he currently has a .329 wOBA in the split, compared to a .432 wOBA against lefties. Judge is a player who can break out at any moment, but it is advisable to wait for that breakout before paying up and inserting him into a lineup.

Eddie Rosario ($3,800) is a nice pivot option to consider tonight.
