FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Helper: Thursday 8/15/19

Thursday's main slate brings around another sparse selection of pitchers, though the good news is none of them will break the bank, with all projected starters checking in at under $10k. On the hitting front, some usual suspects in the Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees lead the way with some favorable matchups.

Our daily helper is available every day to analyze FanDuel's main slate and help give you a starting point when you're building lineups. Be sure to also incorporate our great tools into your research process. Whether you're looking for daily projections, the latest starting lineups and weather, or batting and pitching heat maps to find the best matchups -- we've got you covered! And don't forget to take a listen to The Solo Shot podcast with Jim Sannes, who breaks down the MLB daily fantasy slate each day.

On that note, let's highlight some of the top options for today's FanDuel main slate.

Pitchers to Target

High-Priced Pitchers

Sonny Gray ($9,800 on FanDuel): Sonny Gray is the most expensive hurler on the board, and he's enjoyed a strong bounce-back campaign backed by a 3.97 SIERA, 27.9% strikeout rate, and his trademark high ground-ball rate at 53.3%. On an evening with few standout matchups, his spot against the Cardinals is one of the best, as St. Louis' active roster has just the 26th-ranked wRC+ against right-handers (89), along with a middle-of-the-road 22.2% strikeout rate. Gray's ability to induce grounders has helped him mitigate the dangers of pitching at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park, actually showing a better FIP in home starts (3.36) compared to away games (3.57). Although he isn't typically a high-upside play, Gray should provide a solid score on a night lacking superstars on the mound.
