3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 7/15/19
Baseball is heating up, and there are plenty of DFS contests to choose from on FanDuel's main slate. While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to avoid sub-optimal options who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.
Let's check out three players to consider fading on FanDuel's main slate for July 15.
Luis Castillo, Cincinnati Reds (SP)
at Chicago Cubs
FanDuel Price: $9,700
The first half was a bit of a coming out party for Luis Castillo -- his 2.29 ERA and 28.8% strikeout rate over 106 innings showcased what the right-hander is fully capable of.
But tonight he faces off with an elite in the Chicago Cubs. the North-siders clock in seventh in team wOBA (.334), and they lead the league with a 10.1% walk rate.
That becomes a bit scary when you notice Castillo has a 12.3% walk rate, which is one of the worst marks in the league among starting pitchers. The weather won't do Castillo any favors, either -- there's a major wind blowing out for tonight's contest.
All of that leads to Luis Castillo being worth fading tonight.
Aaron Judge, New York Yankees (OF)
vs Tampa Bay Rays
FanDuel Price: $4,400
In an AL East showdown tonight, Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees take on Blake Snell and the Tampa Bay Rays. The Bronx Bombers' 4.56 run implied team total is nothing to shake a stick at.
What's concerning for a hitter like Judge is that Snell has been outstanding this season against right-handed batters. In 309 plate appearances, righties have mustered only a .292 wOBA, 33.3% strikeout rate, and 32.0% hard-hit rate.
While any home game in New York is one to target, thanks to Yankee Stadium's league-best home run factor over the last three years, Judge may be one to avoid tonight.
Rhys Hoskins, Philadelphia Phillies (1B)
vs Los Angeles Dodgers
FanDuel Price: $3,900
Clayton Kershaw may not be in vintage form, but he has been pretty strong in the 2019 season. Over 15 starts and 99 innings pitched, the southpaw's solid 3.79 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and 23.3% strikeout rate have been solid, if unspectacular.
Right-handers like Rhys Hoskins have really struggled against Kershaw this year, including a .291 wOBA, 23.8% strikeout rate, and tidy 27.1% fly-ball rate.
The strength of this matchup is reflected in Kershaw's implied allow run total, too -- he sits fourth-lowest on the main slate at 4.21 runs.
For as good as Hoskins is with the platoon advantage, the tough matchup with Kershaw leaves him as a shaky option tonight.
