3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 7/3/19

Baseball is heating up, and there are plenty of DFS contests to choose from on FanDuel's main slate. While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to avoid sub-optimal options who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three players to consider fading on FanDuel's main slate for July 3.

Mike Fiers, Oakland Athletics (SP)

vs Minnesota Twins
FanDuel Price: $8,300

Despite being the sixth-most expensive pitcher on the main slate, Mike Fiers of the Oakland Athletics is faced with slowing down a red-hot offense tonight with a wind blowing out. Yikes.

The Minnesota Twins are at the top of the hitting leaderboard in nearly all categories, including fly-ball rate (40.4%, second), hard-hit rate (41.6%, fourth), isolated power (.227, first), and wOBA (.348), first.

Their 20.4% strikeout rate makes them the sixth-toughest team to strike out, and this ignores Fiers recent run of form -- while he's topped six or more innings in each of his last seven starts, he's yet to top five strikeouts since May 7th.

All of this adds up to staying away from the veteran right-hander.

Christian Yelich, Milwaukee Brewers (OF)

at Cincinnati Reds
FanDuel Price: $5,000

Another day, and another bomb for Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers:

Smashing his 31st home run of the season, Yelich appears ready to shatter his prodigious 2018 season. But tonight's matchup with Sonny Gray may be one to pivot off of -- Gray has been great in reuniting with pitching coach Derek Johnson, and his success has hinged on limiting lefty bats.

In 2019, spanning 153 plate appearances, Gray owns a .243 wOBA allowed, .193 batting average, and 31.4% strikeout rate.

This should be a fun matchup, but Yelich will likely have his hands full.

Joey Gallo, Texas Rangers (1B)

vs Los Angeles Angels
FanDuel Price: $4,300

With 20 home runs already, despite missing time this season, Joey Gallo is ready to heat that bat up in the hot Texas summer, yes?

Maybe, but give it an extra evening. Gallo locks horns with Griffin Canning, who's been nasty to left-handed batters this season. On the year, they own a minimal .256 wOBA, .152 batting average, and 25.9% strikeout rate.

And while that park is a hitter's haven, there's a serious wind blowing in tonight that could knock down some of Gallo's insane power.

Gallo is usually a lock in July baseball tonight in Texas, but maybe tonight isn't the best play.
